Lost and found - Kodak Portra 400

Each summer I try to take the time and drive around the Swedish countryside. Small roads and small towns can contain some interesting stuff. I like the things that are left behind. Buildings, restaurants, signs, cars. Sometimes you get the feeling that the whole town is left behind. This time I drove around and found some old abounded cars in the middle of nowhere.

Here are the full set, all shot on the Mamiya 7 and the 65mm f4. The film is my go to, Kodak Portra 400. All scanned by me using Valoi, Fujifilm GFX and a Pentax 645 120mm macro lens.

On a recent drive I found my next photography project. I have some time been fascinated by off season activities and the way I think they tell an interesting story. Both visually and culturally. So this project is about off season campers. These places become something else in winter time. They transform. They have a sense of being left behind. A mix of sadness and a bit of mystery. I also find it interesting with the people who choose to live or spend time in their caravans when it’s not summertime. But don’t expect any stranger portraits as I’m still way to shy for that! In fact I’m pretty scared someone will see me just pondering around with my large camera. Not sure yet what this project will transform into but here’s a sample of what I got so far. Can you spot the cat?

Fuji GA645 in Majorna, Gothenburg

Majorna is a special part of Gothenburg for many reasons. It’s the place where my mother grew up in the 1950’s and some of that old charm is still preserved in buildings, shops and old signs. I remember as a kid my late grandfather standing in the window of his flat, near Mariaplan, waving goodbye to me as we drove home.

Now I share a love for this charming place with many others. I even got a space here together with 7 other photographers, with a dark room and all. I often wonder around this neighborhood with a camera and some film. Here I’m using the Fujifilm GA645 (a camera I no longer own, but it’s a pretty sweet camera) and some Ilford HP5. Rural decay on film - Portra 400

A few weeks ago I posted images from the old roadside restaurant & motel in Brännebrona, Sweden. Then the images where digital but now I’ve got the scans back from the lab! So here are the results :) For me film does it almost every time. The overexposed Portra looks amazing and adds another dimension to the image.
